Over $1 million dollars is coming from the provincial and federal governments to help establish cold storage and packing facilities in the province.
Spruce Meadow Farms near Happy Valley-Goose Bay will receive nearly half a million dollars for the construction of a facility in Labrador.
Meanwhile, the Southwestern Newfoundland Farmers Group, a cooperative of seven local farmers, will receive $750,000 dollars in provincial funding to establish a new vegetable storage and secondary processing facility in Robinsons.
The initiative is intended to give producers the infrastructure they need to increase production and improve vegetable quality.
The provincial government has set a goal to reach 20 per cent food self-sufficiency by 2022.
