A Facebook snafu is paying off in spades for The Seed Company in St. John’s.
They recently posted an ad for its Walla Walla onion seeds which was promptly flagged and removed for being too sexual.
The Seed Company’s Jackson McLean said they moved more business online just in case a second wave of the pandemic hits here. But it appears it was a computer glitch, not a complaint, that nixed the ad for his onion seeds.
He says it was likely an algorithm that confused the shapes of the onions as sexual in nature.
So we just got notified by Facebook that the photo used for our Walla Walla Onion seed is "Overtly Sexual" and therefore cannot be advertised to be sold on their platform…
Can you see it?

McLean says a Facebook official contacted him and the error was fixed, but not before the story made news around the world, with people posting pictures of their own oddly-shaped veggies in response.
He says the hullabaloo also boosted online sales for The Seed Company, formerly known as the Gaze Seed company.
We made it to The Daily Show with Trevor Noah! (the part about the sexy onions starts at 3:45) And we just did a phone…
