The City of St. John’s says its popular end-of-Halloween event—the Bannerman Park pumpkin walk—will not be going ahead this year.
Councillor Jamie Korab says the event had to be shelved due to COVID-19 restrictions.
For the past three years, thousands of pumpkins were brought to Bannerman Park in early November as a festive farewell to Halloween.
Hoards of gourds lined the walkways around the park, lighting the night, before being rounded up and composted.
Not to squash the spirit, Korab says the city is instead planning a virtual pumpkin carving contest, the details of which will be unveiled in the coming days.
