The province isn’t having much luck getting Transport Canada to change a recent rule implemented for provincial ferries.
Yesterday in the House of Assembly, Conception Bay East-Bell Island MHA David Brazil noted the rule forces travellers to get out of their vehicles and proceed to the lounge area, where social distancing is not possible.
He added the premier of British Columbia has expressed similar concerns in asking for the rule to be reversed.
Transportation Minister Derrick Bragg says he wrote the federal minister about changing the rule but they’ve decided to keep it in place.
The minister says Transport Canada feels it’s safer for people to be in the lounge area instead of their vehicles in case of an emergency.
