Back before COVID-19, John Connors penned an open letter proposing that the province move the Newfoundland time zone ahead another half hour.
Debate has been sparked yet again now that the province has reverted back to Newfoundland Standard Time. That means the sun sets much earlier in the day through some of the shortest periods of daylight hours.
Connors says his proposal will mean more daylight at the end of the day, year-round. He cites the pedestrian mall as an example, arguing that an extra half hour of daylight in the evening might have benefitted patrons and businesses alike.
He says if the province were to decide to stick to one time year-round, then he would prefer it to be Daylight Saving Time to take full advantage of evening daylight.
