One man is dead as the result of a collision on the Trans-Canada yesterday evening near Norris Arm.
RCMP were called to the scene of a collision between a pickup and an oil tanker around 7:20 p.m.
The 69-year-old victim was the driver and lone occupant of a pickup that police say crossed over the centre line into the path of the oncoming tanker.
The larger vehicle tried to avoid the collision to no avail. The tanker sideswiped an oncoming transport truck travelling behind the pickup. The two commercial truck drivers were not injured.
Roads were wet at the time. Emergency crews were on the scene for an extended period last night between the exits to Norris Arm North and South. Traffic was diverted down into the community for several hours.
It’s the second fatal crash in the province in the last few days.
On Saturday, a two-vehicle collision near Goobies claimed the lives of a 20-year-old man and a 15-year-old girl.
