Cenovus and Husky Energy have received all of the key regulatory approvals required to combine their operations.
The transaction is expected to formally close on January 1.
The combined company will continue to operate as Cenovus Energy and will stay headquartered in Calgary.
Cenovus announced in October that it was buying out Husky in a $23.6-billion deal.
In December the provincial and federal governments announced $41.5-million in government funding for Husky’s West White Rose project. Government indicated it will help to preserve work on the project, construction on which has been suspended through 2021.
