The head of a union representing a large number of construction workers in the province says infrastructure spending is one of the keys to the rebuilding process for the industry in 2021.
Darin King is the executive director of Trades NL.
He believes that such an investment would be beneficial.
He says history will show that investing in construction during an economic downturn is the single biggest driver of jobs and money flowing through the economy.
King hopes the government will make continued investments on that front, while also combining it with an NL First Hiring policy.
He believes there are numerous opportunities, and if the government works to structure it so priority is given to local contractors, then we can maximize the benefits for the local economy.
