Quick action and the generosity of many helped save the life of one lucky cat this weekend.
Terry Penney and his son were driving down the road in Lewisporte on Saturday when they noticed a cat with a paw caught in an animal trap walking across a parking lot. They pulled over and got to the cat, but sought the help of a local hunter to free the cat from the trap.
Needing medical attention, they brought Bug the cat to the vet, who said Bug would need surgery to remove the damaged limb, or he may not live more than a few days.
Once the owner was contacted, they were responsible to foot the $1,500 vet bill which they couldn’t afford. So Penney and his son Jonah took to Facebook to see if anyone could lend some help. Within hours, donations flooded in from near and far to help the cat.
Penney says the post went “gangbusters” He says he expected to see some help from locals, but the wave of support spread all the way to Ontario and British Columbia. Bug received the surgery and is doing well, but will certainly have some adjusting to do.
Penney said the cat’s owner was grateful to him for the action he took to help. But he says the monetary support and well wishes from many across Canada played just as big a part.
