A Natuashish man has been charged with first-degree murder following a shooting in the community on January 3.
Shortly after 3:30 on Sunday afternoon, police came upon an injured man on a roadway in the community and determined he had been shot. The man was transported via air ambulance to the local clinic where he died later that evening.
Etienne Jacobish, 33, was arrested on Sunday evening, and was kept in police custody overnight. Officers with the RCMP Major Crimes Unit and Forensic Identification services remained on scene on Monday.
Jacobish was charged with first-degree murder on Monday, he attended court via teleconference. He is now in custody in Happy Valley-Goose Bay awaiting court on February 15.
The RCMP advises that an increased police presence will be in Natuashish as the investigation continues.
