A Mount Pearl man has been charged with drug-impaired driving after being caught going nearly 160 km/h on the Trans-Canada yesterday.
Police clocked the 21-year-old driver at 159 km/h on the TCH between Butter Pot Park and Witless Bay Line.
He was transported to the RCMP’s Holyrood detachment, where he refused to take a drug influence evaluation.
As a result, the man has been charged with refusal, excessive speeding, having unsealed cannabis in a vehicle, and failing to comply with a release order. His licence was suspended and vehicle impounded.
The arrest came during a three-hour initiative by police in the area, during which nearly 30 drivers were handed tickets for speeding or distracted driving.
