A Gander man is now facing eight charges related to impaired and dangerous driving stemming from a crash that claimed the lives of two people in July, 2019.
The case of Nicholas Villeneuve was heard in Gander provincial court on Tuesday afternoon.
A Lewisporte couple was killed in the early morning hours of July 7, 2019 after a pickup driven by Villeneuve crossed the centre line and struck their SUV head-on.
Villeneuve, the lone-occupant of the truck, was taken to hospital where a blood sample was taken. RCMP say an analysis confirmed that he was impaired at the time of the crash.
Judge Mark Linehan ordered an exclusion of some evidence from the drunk-driving case. However, specific details of the evidence have not been released due to a publication ban.
Nicholas Villeneuve is now facing two counts of impaired operation causing death, two counts of impaired operation causing bodily harm, two counts of dangerous operation of a conveyance causing death and two counts of dangerous operation of a conveyance causing bodily injury.
The case will return to court in Gander on February 1.
