The Salvation Army has announced the final total raised by their 2020 “Kettle’s On” campaign in the province.
The annual campaign greatly passed their $700,000 dollar goal, brewing up more than $1.1-million for those in need. This is the first time the campaign has cracked the one million dollar mark in Newfoundland and Labrador.
All the money raised stays in the community where it is raised and supports families in need throughout the year.
The Salvation Army’s Secretary for Public Relations and Development Newfoundland and Labrador Division, Major Rene Loveless, says the success of the campaign is a great demonstration in the trust that the public has for the Salvation Army.
Loveless says there were challenges such as getting volunteers and the distribution of kettles, but the people of the province rose to the occasion.
He says they weren’t sure what to expect when they set their goal, but ultimately were amazed by the support they received.
Loveless says a big factor in raising so much was the inclusion of debit card tap donations, allowing people who did not have change to still donate.
The campaign raised over $300,000 dollars more than its total in 2019.
