A St. John’s couple is shaken up but unhurt after someone broke into their home while they were in bed.
Restaurateur Todd Perrin and his wife are early risers and go to bed relatively early.
Perrin says it wasn’t long after they settled in for the night when he heard something downstairs.
Initially, he chalked the sound up to the house settling, but then he heard another noise and knew someone was in the house. He shouted “Get out! Get out!” as he descended the stairs and his wife called 911. That’s when he saw a shadow go across the room and back out the window.
Perrin says the culprit, who accessed the house through an unlocked window, grabbed a bag on their way back out of the house. The suspect was tracked by police for some time, but they lost the trail.
He says the thief accessed the window after climbing up over a back deck that is eight or nine feet off the ground.
Perrin says from now on, he’s going to ensure all his windows are locked.
