RCMP say they have found the scallop dragger that sank off southwestern Nova Scotia last month claiming the lives of six fishermen, including a man from this province.
Police say the Saturday search of an area in the Bay of Fundy using sonar and an ROV, or remotely operated vehicle, located a large object in about 60 metres of water which was later confirmed to be the Chief William Saulis.
The vessel was found upright more than two kilometres from shore.
The Mounties say the families have been notified, but because the ship is in such deep water it’s not clear how a search inside the vessel will be carried out.
The dragger sank quickly in rough seas on December 15. So far only the body of Michael Drake of Fortune has been recovered.
The others, including Aaron Cogswell, Leonard Gabriel, Dan Forbes, Geno Francis and captain Charles Roberts, are still missing.
