Premier Andrew Furey is promising free menstrual products for students in schools.
Yesterday in a tweet, he indicated that one in seven girls leaves school early or misses school entirely because they did not have access to the products they need.
Furey says after consulting with women’s organizations, government will partner with suppliers and use money already in the department of health’s budget to provide the essential products.
Most schools don’t provide free pads/tampons many youth need – many are missing class at times because of it. Our government will make sure these essentials are free in schools, partnering with suppliers and using money already in the department of health’s budget to do it. pic.twitter.com/SoMEw1tcII
