The Liberal Party of Newfoundland and Labrador is responding to its denial of the candidacy of a former Liberal MHA.
Neil King says he was “snubbed” by the party he once represented because of his mental health struggles.
King is now running as an Independent in the district of Bonavista.
The Executive Director of the Liberal Party of Newfoundland and Labrador, Michael King issued a statement today indicating that King’s candidacy was denied because of public discriminatory remarks made.
Neil King admits the remarks made in a Facebook post which have subsequently been deleted, calling it a lapse in judgement due to ongoing mental health challenges.
Michael King says Neil was offered the “party’s full support with his mental health issues, in writing and verbally.”
“Mr. King was denied candidacy because of public discriminatory remarks. Mr. King raised his mental health issues as an explanation for what he has called lapses in judgment. Mr. King was offered the party’s full support with his mental health issues, in writing and verbally.“
