RCMP have confirmed that an 81-year-old man has died after an incident on the province’s south coast.
The man was found dead, pinned beneath an ATV which had apparently left the trail and rolled over an embankment onto the ice in a cabin area off the Bay D’Espoir Highway.
Police say the man was found on the ice on Twillick Lake, trapped beneath the machine.
The Chief Medical Examiner’s office has been contacted as part of the ongoing investigation.
It’s the first ATV-related fatality of the year. Last year 20 people died as the result of accidents involving ATVs or snowmobiles.
