Newfoundland and Labrador is in the midst of a winter election, and the timing of the campaign is raising concerns about accessibility.
Debbie Ryan with the Canadian National Institute of the Blind says there are a lot of people in the province who are blind or living with low vision and she wants to make sure they’re able to get out and vote.
Ryan has been in contact with Elections NL to discuss accessibility.
She says special ballots are available for those who for whatever reason can’t vote in person while resources will also be available for in-person voting.
A sighted guide will be available at all polling stations for those who self identify as requiring one. Ryan says the ballots themselves will also be easier to read for people with low vision.
Elections NL Looking for Workers
