Public health officials are still probing the source of a cluster of COVID cases confirmed last week.
There are no new confirmed cases of COVID-19 reported today with 13 active cases in the province including one person in hospital.
It’s been three days since the province saw a small spike in COVID cases. Eight confirmed cases were reported following Thursday and Friday, with a cluster of five cases with no known source.
As a result of that investigation, Public Health officials are asking anyone who worked at or visited a number of St. John’s businesses last month to arrange for COVID testing.
They include:
· The Duke of Duckworth in St. John’s, 325 Duckworth Street, on Wednesday, January 20 from 3:30 p.m. to close.
· The Rose and Thistle Pub in St. John’s, 208 Water Street, on Wednesday, January 20 from 4:30 p.m. to close.
· Piatto Pizzeria + Enoteca in St. John’s, 377 Duckworth Street, on Friday, January 22 from 6:00 p.m. to close.
Meanwhile, no new cases have been identified related to a suspected at a daycare. No children or staff at the daycare have tested positive for the virus at this time.
The Department of Health and Community Services is urging residents to download the COVID Alert App.
Pub Decides to Temporarily Close as Precaution
Meanwhile, the manager of the Rose and Thistle pub says it was a stressful weekend trying to carry out contact tracing for one day almost two weeks ago.
Manager Melinda Lodge says she was notified late Saturday of the potential risk, 10 days after the possible exposure. She says she was told that officials are “casting their net really wide” as a precaution, adding that the bar is doing the same thing.
On that note, Lodge says management decided to close the bar yesterday and today pending test results for their employees.
