Following an extraordinarily mild couple of days, winter is set to return to the island on Monday.
Environment Canada has issued special weather statements for pretty much the entire island except for the Northern Peninsula.
The system is expected to move in Monday morning beginning with the south coast.
There is still some uncertainty with the snowfall amounts, but current indications are that between 15 cm and 30 cm of snow could fall.
On the southern Avalon, that snow could change to rain on Monday afternoon.
As well, strong winds will follow the system. Gusts of around 70 km/h will be felt for most, with gusts up around 100 km/h possible along the south and east coasts.
Environment Canada meteorologist Veronica Sullivan says depending on where you live, the Monday morning commute will be messy.
Snow will start in the south around 4 a.m. and push into the metro between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m.
Sullivan explains that conditions for most will improve by Tuesday morning, with the exception being the west coast.
There, persistent flurries and snow squalls could lead to further accumulations in the wrap-around of the system.
