Firefighters estimate 70 or more cattle were lost in a blaze that consumed a large barn on the Back Line in the Goulds last night. During all the chaos last evening it was reported that 100 had perished.
Police and fire crews were on the scene for most of the night and into early this morning until it was fully extinguished.
Posts on social media showed a long, wide structure engulfed in smoke and flames that lit up the night sky.
Firefighters were able to save about 20 of the cows.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.

A large fire destroyed a barn on Back Line in the Goulds last night.
Police and fire crews arrived on the scene around 9:00 p.m. and were there for most of the night and into early this morning until it was fully extinguished.
Posts on social media showed a long, wide structure engulfed in smoke and flames that lit up the night sky. Posts also indicate a large number of livestock were lost in the blaze.
There was a fire on the same property in November of 2020 where a garage was destroyed right nest to the barn.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. VOCM News will have more information as it becomes available.
