It’s going to be quite some time before we find out the results of the provincial election.
In the 2019 election—which saw the Liberal majority reduced to a minority—it took two days to count roughly 10,000 special ballots. There will be 10 or 15 times that number of such voting kits this time around.
Chief Electoral Officer Bruce Chaulk expects it to take about three weeks to count them all.
He says most, if not all of the kits, will go out today leaving plenty of time to get them back by the March 12 deadline.
In 2019, about 215,000 people voted. They have processed close to 150,000 kits for a total of about 180,000 if you add in-person voting.
