The city’s most dangerous intersections in terms of traffic collisions should come as no great surprise to many who have spent any amount of time driving in St. John’s.
Number one on the list of the city’s ten highest collision intersections is Rawlins Cross. The intersection of Goldstone Street and Thorburn Road is number two and number three is the intersection of Kelsey Drive and Kiwanis Street.
The information is included in a detailed report on collisions in St. John’s prepared by the capital city’s transportation engineering division. The report will be reviewed by council at Wednesday’s Committee of the Whole meeting.
The report shows that between 2012 and 2019, forty-one per cent of reported collisions in the city occurred at intersections and 59 per cent occurred at mid-block locations.
It’s been recommended to council that consultants be contracted to complete detailed analysis on the top ten locations, and provide a list of recommended improvements.
