The Nunatsiavut Government says the provincial government is continuing to turn a blind eye to illegal caribou hunting in Labrador.
President Johannes Lampe is once again calling on the province to step up enforcement in Labrador.
Lampe calls it disturbing to hear reports of hunters willfully harvesting endangered caribou herds and “equally disturbing” that such activity is allowed to continue.
Nunatsiavut’s Lands and Natural Resources Minister Greg Flowers says they’ve received “multiple reports of individuals, including Labrador Inuit, illegally hunting George River caribou.”
They’ve called on officials to take action on “numerous occasions.”
President Lampe says caribou have sustained the Labrador Inuit and now that herds are struggling to survive, everyone has to do their part to help make sure they do.
