The Chief Medical Officer of Health is crediting the collective efforts of Newfoundlanders and Labradorians for “tackling” the province’s second COVID-19 outbreak.
There were three new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the province yesterday, all in the Eastern Health region. All are contacts of previous cases.
There are 84 active cases in the province, including three people who are in hospital.
All of the recent confirmed cases in the Eastern Health region have either been linked to previous cases or have been travel related. That’s very different from the rapid and worrisome community spread identified one month ago.
The Avalon Peninsula remains under Alert Level 5, Public Health’s highest level of COVID-related restrictions. That will be reassessed on Friday of this week but Dr. Fitzgerald doesn’t anticipate that the province will be skipping levels.
The approach needs to be slow, to prevent the kind of intense resurgence seen last month she says.
