Newfoundland and Labrador’s unemployment rate has shot way up. It stood at 12.8 per cent in January but was 15.3 per cent in February according to Statistics Canada, a jump of 2.5 per cent.
Canada’s national unemployment rate was 8.2 per cent.
Most provinces are now experiencing a downward trend but they have been emerging from lockdown for some time, whereas Newfoundland and Labrador was the last to experience the second wave.
