Air Canada is increasing its flights from Deer Lake to Toronto to seven days a week.
In the middle of January, Air Canada reduced the route to five days a week due to a lack of demand.
After hearing from rotational workers living on the West Coast, the two extra days are being reinstated starting March 31.
With winter ending and projects resuming on the mainland, Air Canada believes there is enough demand for essential travel to justify the route.
Tammy Priddle, President and CEO of the Deer Lake Regional Airport Authority, says the two extra days will give rotational workers more access.
She knows that the cancellation of the Wednesday flight, in particular, was forcing workers to have to land in St. John’s and drive the rest of the way.
Priddle says it was a huge inconvenience for the workers and that it was taking time away from them that they would normally spend with their families. She’s hopeful this is a sign of bigger and better things are coming for the Deer Lake Regional Airport.
