Messy weather is on the way tonight for most of the island and is expected to last until Friday evening.
Environment Canada meteorologist Justin Boudreau says a weak weather system is going through Labrador with a pretty intense trough behind.
Most of the island will see lots of rain, snow, and high winds.
Boudreau says periods of rain or snow begin tonight as the fringe of the storm moves in. That will change to heavy rain overnight. 30 to 50 mm is expected, but Boudreau says the amounts and where it is going to fall are still up in the air.
Rain will change to snow late overnight and early Friday morning for the southwest, west, northeast, and central which could see up to 30 cm, and lighter snow amounts could fall in the evening Friday for the Avalon.
Winds will gust to 80 km/h, however, coastal areas could get gusts up to 100 km/h.
Boudreau says there is a threat of flooding. He says temperatures will be between 5 and 10 degrees, winds gusting to 80, and a lot of snow around to melt with the rainfall on top of that.
Boudreau says temperatures start to freeze Friday afternoon which will make for very icy conditions.
