Despite the pandemic, Memorial University brought over $135-million in research funding into the province in 2020.

That’s more than any other university in the Atlantic region last year.

Narrative Research is out with a new survey of Atlantic Canadians showing that a majority of those asked believe it is important that universities are actively involved in COVID-related research.

MUN President Vianne Timmons says not only has MUN been at the forefront in things like the development of PPE and COVID testing, but also in research on COVID impacts.

Beyond the pandemic, Memorial has also been involved in other research projects in a broad range of disciplines.

Those research grants represent a lot of money that wouldn’t otherwise come to the province. Memorial “punches above its weight” in many ways, Timmons suggests.
