The Crown will be appealing a recent court decision that led to the acquittal of Robert Picco on charges related to animal neglect.
Picco, of Portugal Cove-St. Philips, was charged after four beagles were found on his property in September of 2018 in an extreme state of emaciation.
Pictures of the dogs after their rescue show them with their ribs and hip bones clearly visible.
The Crown has announced it will appeal the decision.
Picco was originally charged with four counts each of causing unnecessary suffering to an animal and neglect.
Public Prosecutions has identified legal errors in the rulings that led to Picco’s acquittal leading to the appeal.
All four dogs have since recovered and have been adopted out.
The acquittal led to a huge public outcry.
