A 26-year-old ATV operator has been charged after fleeing from police in Glovertown.
At around 1:20 a.m. Thursday, Glovertown RCMP observed an ATV riding on Main Street South in Glovertown without any rear lights. Officers flashed their lights but the ATV fled the scene. Minutes later, a second officer observed the same ATV on Aspen Road in Traytown, this time with no lights at all. Police attempted again to stop the operator, but were again unsuccessful. At around 1:30 a.m., the ATV re-appeared on Aspen Road, and police were finally able to apprehend the driver.
The driver provided a breath sample that was above the legal limit.
He has been charged with two counts of flight from police. As well, his ATV was impounded and his licence suspended.
In 2020, eleven of seventeen off-road vehicle deaths involved an impaired driver.
