Provincial courts in St. John’s and Harbour Grace will return to mostly in-person matters as of Monday.
The decision comes with news that the entire province is moving to Alert Level 2 as of Saturday.
Access to courts will still be limited to the main players such as judges, staff, lawyers, accused, witnesses, victims, support workers and police.
Media will also be given access but the presiding judge reserves the right to limit the number of people in the courtroom.
While most courts, including Drug Treatment, Family Violence Intervention, and Mental Health Court, will be fully reinstated, some matters can still proceed virtually where necessary.
A complete rundown of the new status can be found on the home page of the provincial court website.
Courts off the Avalon moved to similar status on March 16.
