There is lots of purple on the go today. This is Purple Day in Newfoundland and Labrador, an event designed to raise awareness of Epilepsy. It’s estimated that one per cent of the population has the disease, which causes sudden seizures.
Gail Dempsey, the executive director of Epilepsy NL, says they are doing events today through Facebook Live.
There is currently no cure, however, Dempsey notes that some research shows CBD oil has some benefit to reducing the severity of seizures in children.
She says there’s not enough research yet on how it may affect brain development.
