Rather than job cuts, the Premier says his focus will be on getting the most bang for every buck the government spends or borrows.
Andrew Furey has said the much-maligned but yet-to-be-completed Greene report will guide decisions, but not before there’s widespread consultation with the public and in the House of Assembly.
He says program reviews don’t necessarily translate into layoffs.
“Are we delivering the services that we need to deliver and are they getting the right value for the investment, that’s the key question to this,” Furey said.
He also repeated his mantra that now is not the time to cut jobs from an economy that will so desperately need them.
