The Leader of the NDP says she has no plans to resign and is more determined than ever to lead the New Democrats.
Alison Coffin says she will be talking with her party about what role they want her to play. Right now, she says she is still the leader and is ready to get to work.
Coffin lost her seat to Liberal candidate John Abbott by 53 votes in the district of St. John’s East-Quidi Vidi. She says the results were very close, but she hasn’t determined yet if she will ask for a recount.
Coffin says Furey has flip-flopped between saying the election was fair, but that it also had problems.
She’s heard concerns from constituents on the voting process and states that the people of Newfoundland and Labrador were disadvantaged by the COVID election call and the shift to mail-in voting.
For now, Coffin says it’s business as usual. She plans to speak with constituents, talk to candidates, do an election wrap-up and talk about how to address the problems with Elections NL and the modernization of the Elections Act.
