A few dozen fish harvesters and others gathered in Clarenville this morning outside MP Churence Rogers constituency office to express their concerns about the possible closure of the inshore cod fishery in 3Ps.
The FFAW called the rally for 11:00 this morning.
Harvesters and plant workers alike are worried that if a moratorium on the inshore fishery is called, they’ll never see another cod fishery off the province’s south coast again.
One speaker told those gathered that they’re down to the “bare bones” right now in terms of the size of the quota in 3Ps.
The 3Ps cod fishery employs harvesters and some 225 plant workers at the plant in Arnold’s Cove, which operates year-round in addition to supporting various spin-off businesses in the region.
