Public Health Officials don’t expect much of the controversial AstraZeneca vaccine will be wasted due to the new guidelines.
Following news that AstraZeneca should not be given to those under the age of 55 due to the risk of blood clots, Eastern and Western Health set up vaccination clinics for those between 55 and 64 to help use up the supply that was set to expire as of today.
The clinic in Eastern Health took place yesterday, while the one in Western Health is happening today in Corner Brook.
Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Janice Fitzgerald believes those clinics should use up what’s left of that supply.
She says they don’t anticipate much wastage, noting that they were pleased with the number of people booked for the Western Health Clinic.
Eastern Health reported similar success with appointments; They announced the clinic late Wednesday morning and were all booked up for appointments by late afternoon.
