The Grand Chief of the Innu Nation is calling for the federal and provincial governments to denounce plans to store foreign countries’ nuclear waste in Labrador.
In a release, the Innu Nation says they were surprised to hear of secret plans being concocted by Canadian and Japanese entrepreneurs.
Grand Chief Etienne Rich said, “these plans are an indication of what can happen behind closed doors when entrepreneurs fail to engage with the indigenous people whose land their schemes would affect.”
The Innu Nation says they will be calling upon Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Premier Andrew Furey for full disclosure about the “secret talks” and for an immediate response to their concerns.
The Innu Nation states that a storage facility for nuclear waste will not be built on their land now – or ever.
