The City of St. John’s wants to clear up any confusion as to whether you’re allowed to park a vehicle on a front yard or lawn.
You’re not.
Staff felt that section of the bylaw was ambiguous, and recommended a change to make it clear that the practice is prohibited.
They say not only is it an eyesore, but it also creates problems with snowclearing, landscape requirements and the environment.
The Residential Property Standards By-Law is in the midst of a review but staff singled out this section to be fixed now, noting the problem gets worse in the spring and summer.
Vehicles are allowed to park on side and rear yards, but not the front lawn.
Council will vote on the change during this afternoon’s regular public meeting.
Old wording: “No person shall park, or cause to be parked, a vehicle on residential property beyond the building line unless such vehicle is parked in an approved driveway or parking space.”
New wording: “No person shall park, or cause to be parked, a vehicle on the front yard of a residential property unless such vehicle is parked in an approved driveway or parking space.”
