A program that was established to increase food self-sufficiency, provide access to fresh foods, and bring awareness to the importance of local food production is starting up again.
Funding applications for the 2021-22 Community Garden Support Program are now available.
This year the province will give out $100,000 in non-repayable grants to community groups including youth, seniors, and Indigenous groups to help establish and enhance already existing community gardens. The maximum available grants have increased from $500 to $750 this year.
The program launched in 2019 with 3,500 participants supporting 101 projects, and saw nearly 6,000 participants making up 124 projects in 2020.
There is no deadline to apply but applications will be considered on a first-come-first-served basis.
