The bizarre case of a correctional officer accused of doing dental work on a sedated prisoner was called in a Gander courtroom yesterday.
A Nova Scotia dentist and a second guard are also charged in connection with the incident alleged to have occurred at a Gander clinic on October 16 of last year.
49-year-old Dr. Louis Bourget, 48-year-old Roy Goodyear of Carmanville, and 43-year-old Ronald McDonald of Trinity each face charges of aggravated assault and assault with a weapon.
A lawsuit was filed in December on behalf of the alleged victim, who was an inmate at the Bishop’s Falls Correctional Centre at the time.
The suit alleges the dentist allowed one guard to perform a dental procedure on the unconscious inmate, while the other guard recorded and shared a video of it.
That’s when management got wind of the incident and the officers were fired.
Tuesday marked the first court dates for all three men. The case is due back in court on June 1 for election and plea.
