The Royal Canadian Mounted Police have unveiled two new additions to their fleet of cruisers that they’re hoping will help them better nab dangerous drivers.

The new specialty vehicles are different from the typical RCMP cruiser or ghost car; they have subdued decals, hidden antennas, and special lights.

The features are designed to make it more difficult to identify from a distance, making it easier for police to identify dangerous and illegal behaviour on this province’s roads.

The force is looking to target speeding, distracted driving, and lack of seatbelt use. The RCMP says such behaviour has been responsible for numerous serious and fatal crashes in this province.

Officer in charge of traffic services, Staff Sergeant David Ossinger notes that one of the vehicles was in use previously as a marked car, and has already put in over 100,000 km of service.

However, he explains that the change in appearance will allow them to get in closer and improve their chances at an effective prosecution.
