There are freezing rain warnings in effect for the Northern Avalon, Metro, and the Bonavista Peninsula.

These regions have been receiving freezing rain since around 3:00 a.m. this morning and the weather is forecasted to persist throughout the entire night. Conditions are not expected to improve until early Sunday morning.

Newfoundland Power is reporting that Donovans, Elizabeth Park, Mount Carson, Neil Pond Estates, and areas on Kenmount Road are without power due to the weather.

Over 2600 people are affected by the outage. It is unknown when power will be restored.

Meteorologist with the Gander Weather Office, Wanda Batten says these regions can expect further outages.

She says there’s a “punch of precipitation” of several millimetres in store.
