Premier Andrew Furey says a solution to the Muskrat Falls juggernaut has to come before commercial power starts flowing later this year.
The Premier said in December he was expecting some word from Ottawa by the end of this month. But that was before the election was called and caretaker mode was extended.
Furey has repeatedly said the financial pressures of the project have to be eased before the province can right its financial ship.
He says they cannot wait until next year. Furey says the province can’t wait that long, adding a solution has to be found with Ottawa before commercial power starts flowing later this year and the bills come due.
Meanwhile, he says he’s been in touch with Moya Greene regarding her report, which he’s expecting by the end of this month.
As for a review of the provincial election, the Premier says he’s open to working with opposition MHAs to modernize the Elections Act.
And finally, Furey says pen has not even been put to paper on the budget yet, but it’s still on track for June.
