Transportation officials are hoping that both lanes of the Trans-Canada near Springdale, washed out earlier this week, will be open to traffic by Monday.
A segment of the highway washed away in heavy rain, effectively cutting the island in two.
Two bypass roads have since been constructed and new culverts were installed on Friday. Backfilling is now underway.
Department officials expect both lanes of the highway to reopen by Monday.
