High school students across the province returned to the classroom part time and one of the big challenges now is trying to find a happy medium for students. That’s according to Don Coombs, President of the Newfoundland and Labrador Federation of School Councils.
He explains that he has been hearing some negative comments about the scenario two model, such as students not being able to get into a routine. However, there are positives such as getting students back in the classroom and the social interaction that comes with that.
Coombs notes that not everything with the scenario 3 online model was smooth sailing either even though many wanted it to continue, citing students checking in to class but not being present the full time as an issue they faced.
With benefits and detriments for every scenario, Coombs says now they need to work on finding a system that works best.
He says they will continue to advocate for improvements to the learning models, noting that their focus needs to be on the health and safety of students, and the delivery of the curriculum.
