Now that St. John’s has been confirmed as the host city for the 2025 Canada Summer Games, the city and province will need to work to make sure all necessary infrastructure is up to par.
Tourism, Culture, Arts and Recreation Minister, Steve Crocker, says there won’t be much done in the way of building brand new facilities, saying they will focus on updating what’s already here.
He says we already have what we need, if not in St. John’s then in the surrounding communities, and it’s just a matter of putting money in to upgrade those facilities.
One building that comes to Crocker’s mind for upgrades right away is the Aquarena, which was built the last time St. John’s held the games in 1977.
He says it’s clear to anyone who drives past that the Aquarena needs “an injection” and they are going to work to do that.
