A 62-year-old man from Allan’s Island on the Burin Peninsula is facing charges after 75 cartons of illegal cigarettes were recently seized by RCMP.

Postal Inspectors in St. John’s alerts Burin Peninsula RCMP of a number of suspicious packages destined for Allan’s Island.

The investigation led to the arrest of a man at his home, where contraband tobacco that originated in Ontario was found.

The accused faces tobacco charges under the Federal Excise Act and the Provincial Revenue Administration Act.

He’s been released to appear in court June 9.
