The Prime Minister is boosting travel measures and restrictions in its response to a so-called double mutation strain of the COVID virus now resulting in a massive surge in cases in India.
As of yesterday, there were more than 330,000 new cases reported in India—the largest single-day case count in the world.
Last night the federal government imposed a 30-day suspension of direct flights from India and Pakistan.
Today Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced that the government is taking measures a step further.
“We know it’s not only about direct flights to Canada,” says Trudeau, that’s why travelers departing India or Pakistan and arriving in Canada through indirect routes must obtain a negative COVID-19 pre-departure test from the last country they traveled through before arriving in Canada.
